N2 - Presentation of Case A 55-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of multiple gastric polyps and melena. He was well until seven years earlier, when occasional hematochezia prompted a sigmoidoscopic examination that revealed an internal hemorrhoid. One year later hematochezia recurred without symptoms, and a routine blood count showed that the hemoglobin was 12.5 g; the iron was 23 μg per 100 ml (4.1 μmol per liter). A barium-enema examination, with air contrast, was reported to be negative. An upper gastrointestinal series (Fig. 1) revealed coarse nodularity of gastric rugal folds, with a large mass along the greater curvature.
