Acute cytomegalovirus proctitis in an immunocompetent man after receptive anal intercourse

Abstract

Gastrointestinal symptoms and pathology are unusual manifestations of acute or reactivation cytomegalovirus infection in the immunocompetent host. We present a case of an immunocompetent homosexual man who developed severe, ulcerative cytomegalovirus proctitis approximately 1 week after unprotected, receptive anal intercourse.
