Abstract

The clinical case and the discussion that follows illustrate the need for early detection and treatment of acute stroke. With the recent evidence that rapid poststroke treatment can considerably improve outcomes, immediate and accurate diagnosis is key. This article discusses the importance of both established and innovative imaging techniques to quickly identify and characterize stroke. These techniques, combined with novel therapeutic interventions, will likely lead to new treatment protocols for stroke.
