Abstract

Tongue diagnosis consists of many parameters, including shape, substance and coating of the tongue and so on, to examine health condition and the property of a disease. A new instrument is demand, however, to exclude the effect of various medical examination environments and clinician's subjective sense. In this study, to acquire a clear image of the whole tongue, 500 mega pixel CCD camera and 35mm lens were used and a right angle shape body with surface coating mirror for sufficient object distance. To reduce a specular reflection on the surface of the tongue due to saliva, the LED lighting with a diffusing acrylic was applied. Furthermore, to adjust light interference in the color of the tongue, color charts were inserted. In further study, we will develop the tongue diagnosis algorithm so that this system can be used widely in clinical and research fields.
