Abstract

Optimal timing of delivery for women with diabetes has evolved considerably during the past decade. Timing of delivery is no longer based simply upon the White classification system. Rather, several ante-partum tests are used to await maturation of fetal lungs. Significant clinical deterioration or confirmation of maturity of fetal lungs by 38 weeks' gestation is the current most common indication for delivery.
