Abstract

The influence of 3-α-androstanediol on the pathogenesis was investigated. It was found that 3-α-androstanediol causes prostatic adenoma in the castrated dog. In humans there is a correlation between 3-α-androstanediol synthesis and the development of prostate adenoma. The synthesis of 3-α-androstanediol depends on a normal functioning of the testicle. A hypothesis about the influence of androstanediol on the prostate is presented.
