Abstract

We describe an unusual, and probably underrecognized manifestation of intramuscular narcotic abuse. Fibrous myopathy is a deforming, fibrous infiltration of the muscles used for injection over a prolonged period. It is usually associated with pentazocine or meperidine injections, and to our knowledge, this is the first report of butorphanol causing this entity.
