Abstract

The review summarizes the current view about the histology lesions inscribed in the field of gastric inflammatory diseases (with or without atrophy). It places particular emphasis on the histopathological lesions whose distribution represents the rationale of the gastritis classification. It concludes with practical recommendations for the practicing gastroenterologist on the appropriate biopsy sampling and the optimal interaction with the gastrointestinal pathologist.
