Geriatric psychiatry: Challenges and rewards

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The number of older adults has been increasing in the United States and is expected to continue rising over the next few decades. Older adults with mental health or substance use disorders are also expanding in number, leading to a demand for more geriatric psychiatrists. With an already insufficient ratio of providers to geriatric patients, recruiting more specialists to the field is of imminent importance. Although geriatrics is a field with many challenges, these challenges and other aspects make it a rewarding one.
