A Society is defined both by the leaders who carry it forward and the successors they nurture and create to continue the journey after their departure. The SCCT is rich in both as witnessed by the range of people attending the ASM, by the deep talent of many of the speakers, and by the exceptional caliber of those awarded prizes at the meeting. The Arthur S. Agatston Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award was presented to Roger Blumenthal for his lifelong contributions to the optimal management of ischemic heart disease, noninvasive detection of coronary atherosclerosis, and the development of new strategies to optimize the management of cardiovascular disease risk factors. The SCCT gold medal was awarded to two outstanding fellows of the SCCT: Jonathon Leipsic who has worked extensively in the field of structural imaging, defining the advantageous role CTA plays in procedural planning and risk mitigation; and Gilbert Raff, who was a founding member of the SCCT and has been formative in producing evidence base exploring the role of cardiac CT in the emergency department through a multitude of works including the CT-STAT trial. This year a new award was also announced. In honor of the first president of the SCCT, the Stephan Achenbach Pioneer Award in Cardiovascular Computed Tomography has been created. This award recognizes people who have led in the development and expansion of the use of cardiovascular CT. This year the award was presented to its namesake, Stephan Achenbach who has worked extensively in the field of cardiovascular CT. He was the first president of the society, the first editor of the Journal, and has been central to numerous seminal studies that have led CT to being a first line imaging investigation. The DeHaan Foundation grant was awarded to Jonathon Leipsic. With this grant Jonathon Leipsic and his team in Vancouver will explore the mechanisms underpinning prosthetic valvular degeneration in order to better identify those at risk of degeneration. Such identification will lead to better monitoring of those at risk but will also aid in the goal of designing and developing future valves more resistant to such stressors. The Siemens Outstanding Academic Research Award was presented to Omar Dzaye for his work on the Coronary Artery Calcium Data and Reporting System, 38 proving the independent and additive importance of the number of vessels and the severity of the coronary artery calcium. Brendan Colvert won the Canon Young Investigator Award – awarded to the best abstract presented by someone within 5 years of completion of training – for his presentation on a novel approach to radiation dose reduction using a shifted center of scanning and filter adapted to the region of interest. Finally, Philip Adamson was awarded Best Abstract for the meeting for his presentation exploring the mechanisms underpinning the results of the SCOT-HEART trial. 9 The winners of the 8th annual SCCT Cardiovascular CT Jeopardy session, presented annually by Todd Villines, were Jonathon Leipsic and Ting Liu, with this the second year in a row that Jonathon has claimed this prize. Also to be congratulated are Dr Emilio Fentanes, current chair of the Fellows and Residents in SCCT (FiRST) committee and the rest of the FiRST committee, for assisting in the read with the expert sessions, the CT jeopardy session, and their constant social media presence at the annual meeting. We look forward to welcoming you to the next SCCT Annual Scientific Meeting to be held in Seattle, Washington, USA from July 16th-19th 2020. Until then, like the sons (and daughters) of Anachreon, we wish you Unanimity, Friendship, and Love.
