Abstract

LY163892 is a carbacephem antibiotic for oral administration with an antibacterial spectrum similar to that of cefaclor and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. It has greater stability than cefaclor and greater activity against β-lactamase-producing Haemophilus influenzae and Escherichia coli. LY163892 is less active than amoxicillin against streptococci and less active than amoxicillin-clavulanic acid against Branhamella catarrhalis but comparable against other pathogens.
