Abstract
A significant number of adverse drug reactions resemble immunopathologic reactions. The development of in vivo and in vitro assays for drug-specific antibodies and lymphocytes has provided critical information regarding the underlying mechanisms of these reactions. These assays provide evidence that indeed some adverse drug reactions have an immunologic basis, and they make it possible to now study the relationships between specific arrays of immune responses to drugs and clinical phenomena.
