Abstract
Developing and implementing successful drug cost management strategies, projecting the budgetary impact of drugs, in the pipeline, and possessing a thorough understanding of the ever-changing underlying health care system are difficult enough tasks for most clinicians. Having to explain all these issues to a lay board of directors is even more challenging. This article presents a unique perspective - the actual 2002 drug cost containment report presented to Parkland Health & Hospital System's board of directors is shared. The report format and presentation style may serve as a model for others to follow who wish to not only keep their top executives informed about drug costs but also improve their relationships with these bottom-line oriented managers.
