Abstract

We have investigated the possibility of arrest of a pulse in the inhomogeneous axon consisting of two homogeneous parts. Using an approximate method we have shown that for high stability factors κ the condition of arrest is expressed in the form √ C2R1 C1R2 > κ + 1·11√κ - 1·69 where C-capacitance; R-sum of internal and external resistances. It has been shown that in the axon covered with a thin film of electrolyte excitation occurs more readily than in the case of an axon submerged in a large volume of electrolyte.
