Rare Complications With Intravenous Hyperosmotic Alimentation

Abstract

More than 100 patients at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School Hospitals have been treated by intravenous hyperosmotic alimentation as described recently by Dudrick et al. One patient had an acute hypersensitivity reaction and another patient had a hyperosmotic coma resulting from the hyperalimentation solution.
