Abstract

In this prospective study we compared single-dose piperacillin with three-dose cephalosporin for perioperative prophylaxis in women at high risk for cesarean section infections. The incidence of postoperative pelvic infections was not different in women given either one-dose piperacillin, or three-dose cefazolin or cefoxitin. These findings lead us to conclude that single-dose piperacillin given perioperatively has an efficacy similar to three-dose traditional therapy.
