Abstract

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a disease of high prevalence in elderly men. Because of the aging of the world's population, significant increases in the expenditure for the evaluation and treatment of this disease may be anticipated. The newly developed guidelines provide a rational diagnostic and treatment algorithm to evaluate patients presenting with symptoms of prostatism.
