Abstract
Various methods to automatically extract the boundaries of the heart and the tags in spatial modulation of magnetization (SPAMM) images were developed. A concise and generic method of representing the three-dimensional (3D) heart shape for cardiac image analysis was presented. The method consists of a sequence of image-processing steps, followed by the computation of forces in each image plane and then the evolution of a deformable model until convergence is reached. A deformable model-based method was employed for the automatic segmentation and analysis of the heart's volume from images and the finite element modeling method for estimating the mechanical properties of the heart muscle.
