Abstract
Volumetric laser endomicroscopy (VLE) is an advanced endoscopic imaging technique that provides high-resolution mucosal and submucosal images of the esophagus. VLE has been used in surveillance of Barrett's esophagus (BE) and in patients undergoing endoscopic treatment of BE neoplasia. Several VLE image-interpretation scoring systems have been developed and tested. Advances in the VLE system, such as the addition of color to areas of the VLE image and laser marking of the mucosa to target biopsies, may allow for increased detection of early neoplasia in BE.
