Abstract

To the Editor: In the letter to the Editor by Cunningham and Leveno (Aug. 9 issue),* I am bothered by the graphs, which are large and impressive but inappropriate and inaccurate with respect to the data they are intended to illustrate. First, the graphs are semilogarithmic plots of categorized data. The data points are connected by lines, implying a relation between them. Since there is no mathematical relation between the points, a bar graph would have been appropriate, as opposed to a graph showing connected points on a coordinate system. Second, the axes of the semilogarithmic plots are wrongly labeled,.
