Abstract

The authors have used a series of elegant biochemical and cell biology approaches to demonstrate that the myocyte developmental program is under the control of a class II histone deacetylase. Calcium-induced signals modulate the interaction of class II HDACs with MEF transcription factors in muscle-specific promoters, resulting in the activation of muscle differentiation.
