N2 - We reported that in 478 elderly patients who had bilateral carotid duplex ultrasonograms, univariate analysis showed that risk factors for 40 to 100% extracranial carotid arterial disease (ECAD) were cigarette smoking, systemic hypertension and diabetes mellitus.1 We now report a multivariate analysis correlating coronary risk factors with 40 to 100% ECAD in 1,063 elderly patients who had bilateral carotid duplex ultrasonograms.
