note = "Funding Information: The current National Institutes of Health mechanism for funding of multi-institutional stroke studies, including pediatric studies, is primarily through StrokeNet. It is critical that StrokeNet honor the commitment of the National Institutes of Health to pediatric stroke research. We learned in the TIPS study that despite years of preparation, institutional commitment to pediatric stroke care and site preparation was a slow process with many obstacles. A study cannot build new research infrastructure and enroll patients at the same time. Many of the regional sites in StrokeNet are affiliated with strong pediatric stroke programs, but some of the strongest pediatric stroke programs in the country are not at a regional StrokeNet site. Nevertheless, an infrastructure of pediatric stroke centers eager to participate in research exists. Harnessing this capacity in StrokeNet or building a separate funded pediatric stroke network is an important way forward. ",
