Abstract

To the Editor: The only disappointing feature in the article on thrombolytic therapy (October 9 issue) by Sharma, Burleson, and Sasahara was that it made no mention of the frequency of bleeding complications. Recently I received a curbside consultation from a friend whose mother had just had a diagnosis of subclavian-vein thrombosis. I expressed the opinion that although Coon and Willis1 reported satisfactory long-term results in that disorder with prompt anticoagulation, at least two other reports2,3 have suggested that long-term complications will ensue in the affected extremity in 50 per cent or more of the patients despite such treatment, and.
